Ham and Cheese Savoury Tart

Try this all time favourite, ham and cheese savoury tart


  • 20 ml margarine
  • 15ml olive oil
  • 500g chopped unsmoked bacon
  • 30g finely chopped chives
  • 250g grated cheese
  • 4 eggs whisked
  • 400ml milk
  • 90g flour (sieved)


  • Preheat the oven to 180°C
  • Fry the onions in the butter and oil in a large frying pan until soft
  • Add the bacon pieces to the onions and fry on a high heat to brown the meat, also ensuring that it is cooked.
  • Remove from the heat and place it in a bowl to cool down
  • Stir in the grated cheese and chopped chives
  • In a separate bowl, prepare the batter by mixing the eggs, milk and flour
  • Grease an oven proof dish, measuring at 30 cm, with the margarine
  • Spoon the bacon mixture in the greased dish and spread the contents evenly
  • Pour the batter in and even out the filling
  • Bake in the oven for approx. 25 minutes or until the top is golden and the center is cooked
